The English translation of the Finnish Code of Conduct for Research Integrity guidelines has been refined. The purpose of the corrections is to increase the unambiguity of the text.
In our ongoing commitment to accessibility and clarity, we wish to communicate corrections to the English translation of the Finnish Code of Conduct for Research Integrity and Procedures for Handling Alleged Violations of Research Integrity in Finland. The following amendments have been made:
- Preface, page 4: The original statement on page 4 "The handling of alleged RI violations at B.A. and M.A. level degrees is assigned to the respective institutions of higher education" has been revised to "The handling of alleged RI violations at the level of bachelor’s and master’s degrees is assigned to the respective institutions of higher education".
- Preliminary Inquiry, page 25: In the context of the Preliminary Inquiry, the previous text: "The person conducting the preliminary inquiry will hear the complainant and the respondent and, if necessary, other relevant parties. The hearings must be documented in the minutes" has been revised to "The person conducting the preliminary inquiry will ask the complainant and the respondent for a written reply and, if necessary, hear other relevant parties".
- Investigation Proper, page 27: Regarding the Investigation Proper phase, the original statement "The investigation committee needs to hear all parties again, separately and documented with minutes from the hearings" has been updated to "The investigation committee needs to hear all parties again separately, preferably through written responses. If hearings are held orally, they must be documented in the minutes".
These corrections are aimed at ensuring accuracy and eliminating any potential ambiguity in the translation. The Finnish version shall prevail in case of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the Finnish and English version.
