The Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK launched the research integrity adviser system in 2017. Research integrity advisers provide personal and confidential advice on research integrity to members of their organisation, and there are currently more than 150 advisers in more than 70 research organisations. The purpose of this system is to strengthen knowledge of research integrity and good research practices in the research community in Finland.
Research integrity advisers can offer guidance e.g. for a researcher who suspects that research integrity has been breached or who is suspected of a research integrity violation. The advisers know the RI process and can provide technical help in drafting an RI notification, if needed. However, they remain neutral and may, where necessary, provide advice to both parties in a dispute. The advisers do not participate in the RI process, and they don't express their opinion on whether research misconduct has occurred. As per the RI process, that conclusion is made by the leader of the organisation.

Research integrity advisers perform their task alongside their work and attend annual trainings offered by TENK. There are research integrity advisers in the majority of Finnish research organisations, and their contact details should be found on the organisation’s intranet or other communication channels. A list of organisations involved in the adviser network can be found TENK’s website (in Finnish).
